It didn't take me long to select my favorite: an octagonal gold P8. Playing this bow is almost an otherworldly experience. The clarity of sound it draws from my viola is incomprehensible. It has an extremely aggressive "bite," and I'll have to learn how to play it without overplaying. It's a bit like learning how to drive a Lamborghini. Tricky but exhilarating, and with endless possibilities. I play the Bach Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin on my viola. This causes two problems that I always thought I'd simply have to live with: lack of clarity in the low register compared to the violin, and sluggish response in the triple and quadruple stops. The P8 solves them both, effortlessly. Just like that. Unbelievable.
